Installation, Performance, Exhibition and Experience
Midnight and the Flickering Wild is a living installation, sparking creativity, conversation, and participation.
It’s format can vary depending on the environment, community, and desired outcomes, but here is an example of how a program might run.
Discovery
The performers arrive on site and begin exploration and development. Drawing upon over 30 years’ of performance expertise, Born in a Taxi apply their unique methodology and performance arts practice while responding the space around them. It is during this phase that themes may arise, ideas start to marinate, and questions become more questions.
Development
Over the weeks, discovery evolves into development, with the artists expanding upon the ideas and themes uncovered. Members of the community are invited to visit the space to watch and take part, becoming audience members and co-conspirators all at once.
No day is like the last, and ideas and moments are woven together to create a tapestry of tangents and insights, illusions and stories.
Culmination
Weeks of exploration and development manifest into a stand alone performance. The addition of a videographer, photographer, or other artists at this stage can enhance output and create a multidimensional and long standing piece of work.
The “Final Look” is followed by the performance of the work, where community members and those visiting can see their ideas and input come to life.
Exhibition
Art created in the development of the project can be displayed either on location or in a setting of your choosing. This is great for activating new spaces, encouraging visitors to existing locations, or simply showcasing the work of your community.

ArtSpace at Realm
A short performance in the installation created by Born in a Taxi and visual artist Dagmara Gieysztorover over three weeks in residence in ArtSpace.
Partnering with multidiciplinary artist and storyteller Dagmara Gieysztor and Maroondah City Council, Born in a Taxi took part in a three week residence in ArtSpace, developing an interactive performance space and exhibition.
Audiences were encouraged to have input throughout the development process by adding offerings and playing with their own shadow selves.
