Prime Time
Prime Time is a new inter-generational work by Born in a Taxi and collaborators featuring a diverse cast of 14 professional and community members aged between 4 and 93 years, in a celebration of community, authentic connection, age and play.
Prime Time experiments with the intersections of theatre, dance, personal story, recorded text, sound composition and visual design. Evolving since April 2023, Prime Time is a west-based project. The work draws on 80 recorded interviews from community members spanning 10 decades, gathered during a 3-week artist residency at Braybrook Community Hub, 4 research/casting workshops in Footscray, engaging 170 community members and artists, and a creative team of 9 artists, enlisting a diverse mix of professional and community cast aged 4-93.
Prime Time interrogates the relationship between age, power, visibility, and value, challenging our assumptions about age and exposing our often unconscious expectations through diverse perspectives across each decade, from 1 to 100. Prime Time asks each age ‘What is the best thing and most challenging thing about being your age?’ ‘When do you feel most empowered and alive? ‘What matters to you most right now?’ giving voice to the less acknowledged age demographics alongside the more typically visible ones in our society, framing many possibilities of different lived experience and the choices they’ve made or have been made for them without overtly commenting on them.
